BIO

Charles Woodman is an assistant professor of Electronic Art in the School of Art, DAAP. He has been a member of the UC faculty since 1999. He teaches courses in Video Production and Electronic Art. Recent exhibitions include: "Stacked", Weston Art Gallery; "Palimpsest", Jarson-Kaplan Theatre; "Video Savant", V.O.L.K.; "I Morti", Art Resources Transfer Gallery, NY; "Baltimore Overpass" Artists Television Access, San Francisco. Honors and awards include: Directors Citation, Black Maria Film and Video Festival; Artist in Residence, Experimental Television Center; Faculty Development Grant; Faculty Research Grant. He was Art Director for "Rising Waters, Global Warming and the Fate of the Pacific Islands," a documentary screened nationally on PBS. His recent projects have concentrated on the integration of video in live performances, often in collaboration with musicians or dancers, and on the creation of video installations for museums and galleries. Woodman is currently working on a the design of a new instrument for use in real time performance, a “gesture based interface for real-time control of video playback”.
