This web piece was prompted by the Communications 'Decency' Act and attempts to censor the Internet. It looks at coding sexuality, nature, and science.

c0ding_tr1cks looks at bodies of and as information – codes of conduct, genetic and computer codes – and at the coding of one's own sexual identity. My goal in this piece is to throw notions of “natural” and “normal” around the individual and social body into question. I tell absurd but true historical stories about science, computers, and queers, keeping in mind the site-specificity of the Web. The hunt for the so called “gay gene” as a natural basis for behavior and the hype around pornography on the Internet prompt most of the small narrative fragments that comprise the piece. Alan Turing features prominently in these as the “father of the computer” and a persecuted gay man.
