Due March 10th
The purpose of this assignment is to help you become familiar with recording and manipulating sound in Logic. With this in mind you are required to do the following: - Record at least two different stereo samples for each person in you group and edit out any pops as necessary
- Use at least eight tracks. At one point at least 8 sounds should be audible at once
- Use vocals recorded in the SINC site
- Use environmental sounds recorded outside the SINC site
- Use synthesized sounds using the MIDI interface and the Logic soft synths or Reason
- Use at least one destructive effect and one fade.
- Create a piece that is a realistic or surrealistic soundtrack to the Charlie Chaplin movie
- Bounce the movie with audio to a movie file.
- Hand in one sample from each person as an audio file
- Create a folder with the movie file and each individual's audio file.
- Have fun and be creative!
Here are some things to keep in mind as you work: - Limit your source material. Instead of collecting huge amounts of sound, try getting a few sounds you are happy with and build the piece around the evolution of these sounds (how they change over time). Experimenting with elements like panning, volume, and effects is crucial in developing these sounds.
- Think formally in terms of large shapes. For example, the primary formal shape behind your piece may be a gradual swelling and dying away of sound, or a slow shift from one texture to another. Try constructing some basic shapes that make sense to you based on the sound material you have. If your source material is harsh and “broken” sounding, you should try to find ways to communicate this in the larger formal structure.
- Have fun with this assignment – because there are really no guidelines on what you are to produce, use your imagination and experiment. Keep things SIMPLE if at all possible, and utilize the tools we have shown you to add detail.
You will be handing in three files:
1) Logic file (with at least eight audio tracks)
2) aiff file of all sounds
3) A list of all sounds and who was responsible for each
