ASSIGNMENT 1 IN CAMERA COLLABORATIVE VIDEO PIECE DUE Feb 10th
Your group should first get together and decide on a theme for the piece. This assignment is to practice using cameras, forcing you to think about shooting as a critical part of any production. In a way, the individual nature of your personal shot(s) is also a way to begin to think about "cuts" and how a meaning might be read or understood from the juxtaposition of shots. Although you are each individually responsible for your shot(s), you should decide what order to shoot them in as a group and if there is a good transitional element to put in between your shots. It also asks you to be creative with titles without a computer. It should meet the following requirements: - You decide upon the theme together and go off individually to decide on a shot or series of shots.
- You must create title(s) and credits for the piece explaining who did what.
- Together try to come up with some sort of visual or auditory device to connect the shots and provide a rythmn to the whole piece. This might be a recurring image/shot, a sound, a visual word, a sequential action (e.g. title - person1shot - step1action - person2shot -step2action - person3shot-step3action - credits). You might also want to shoot all the shots in black-n-white or some other way to link them.
- The in-class shoot day, you will crew for the other members of your group to shoot your shots.
- You will have access to a shooting studio to set up shots if you want. Think creatively and help each other with the shots. Plan short, concise shots rather than long ones. Think of interesting props or locations for shots if you leave the immediate vacinity. Bring an "actor" along to class if you need one.
- You can checkout cameras for after class, but they are limited in quantity, so primarily plan to shoot this day.
- The piece should be handed in on tape on Feb 10th for discussion in class.
